THE BIG GUNS OF PARIS!

Paris fashion week was as glamorous as expected, and the top French fashion houses did not disappoint. Functionality and femininity were the primary focus for numerous designers, and the decline in the average age of the target market was strikingly evident in the modernization of these labels!

Nicholas Chesquiere’s showcased yet another exquisite collection marking his first anniversary as the designer and creative director of Louis Vuitton. Juxtaposing contrary elements and transforming them into balanced looks is surely Nicholas's strong suit, which as he specified epitomized the exploratory nature of the Louis Vuitton woman in this collection.  The futuristic metallic color on the puffed-sleeved retro-inspired dress, or the classic brocade jacket with the eccentric jellyfish patterns are examples of such unconventional pairings.

On the other hand, Karl Lagerfeld took a patriotic approach, and set the stage for Chanel's fall/winter 2015 collection at a French brasserie to exhibit his love for France, and to highlight the significance of France in the art fashion. Not only the backdrop, but also the silhouettes and the materials brought France in mind.

The collection screamed French bourgeoisie with the block-heeled slingback shoes, one of Chanel's very own Mademoiselle Coco's favorites, as well as the overindulgence of tweed. Karl also added a futuristic twist to the retro and classic silhouettes to appeal to the new generation. The pillowed parka matched with a classic skirt, or the backpack paired with the tweeted dress were a few of these time-twisting looks.

While elegance and poise were the dominant theme at the Luis Vuitton and Chanel's runway, Hedie Slimane, the designer and creative mind behind Saint Laurant's, focused on the women's wild side to celebrate femininity!

The Saint Laurent woman, or to put it correctly the YSL"girl", is a rock-and-role groupie, and party-animal who dances all night, and does not care about her torn stockings or smudged eye-makeup. She is bold and edgy, and feels no shame in being bad! Predominantly black and white, the shades at Saint Laurent's fall/winter were remarkebly limited, with a few in-your-face pops of colors that perfectly mirrored the disobedient attitude of Hedie Slimane's muse for this collection.

This sort of dark and seductive vibe was also spotted at the Christian Dior's runway, yet Raf Simons took a different approach to bring this wild beast to life.

For Dior's fall/winter 2015 collection, Raf was influenced by the nature, and not the romantic part, but the savage and animalistic side of it. The bodies were elegantly covered revealing minimal bare skins, but one could not escape the force that diverted the gaze to look, or in other words imagine what lies beneath. The thigh-high vinyl boots, the snake-printed trench coat, the big fur coat, or the cutouts were all quite suggestive to what Raf had in mind when designing this collection.
