London Collection: Men Spring/Summer 2015
From June 17th to 21st, England hosted the fifth London Collection in the capital showcasing Spring/Summer 2015 menswear collections by both big British names, and emerging designers. This three-day event was a great platform for novice designers, such as Nicomede Talavera and Liam Hodges to present their fresh designs, and gain more international recognition, along with the more established British designers.
Elegance paired with comfort was the main theme dominating the runways this year. Perfectly tailored suits were put together with colorful sneakers at Burberry Prorsum, while at DKNY they were worn with basketball jerseys, and sandals. This sense of contrast and duality was also apparent as boxy silhouettes constructed with athletic and casual fabrics, like cotton and jersey, were frequently matched with formal pieces on the runway, like in Xander Zhou’s new collection.
The overall color palettes this year were certainly less saturated compared to previous seasons, although just as varied. Nude sandy colors, pale blues, pastel hues, and a lot of black and whites were among the main color choices by the British brands. However, silvers and metallic foils were definitely the new favorite hues reemerging frequently in Spring/Summer 2015 collections. Many of the British designers, such as Richard Nicole and Jonathan Saunders, matched different shades of silver with nudes and toned down colors to create a soft overall look.
Amongst noteworthy accessory trends frequently spotted across the collections, was the replacement of ties and bows with scarves. Inspired by 70’s fashion, soft flowy scarves with vibrant patterns were matched with colorful felt hats and suits at Burberry. The same style was also spotted in Baartmans and Siegel, Katie Eary, and J. W. Anderson.
From the collections for the next spring and summer, it is perfectly evident that the sporty chic trend is definitely here to stay; however, a more refined makeover is on the rise.
