2015 Resort Collection Trend Review: Part 1

Fashionable all year around, resort collections are definitely what to focus on in order to forecast next year’s popular trends. As season-specific collections set the trends based on the fluctuations in the weather, resort collections determine the overarching trends. Frequently spotted in 2015 resort collections, longer hems and bigger proportions are among next year’s upcoming trends when it comes to silhouettes.

This year, designers took a more conservative approach to length compared to previous seasons. As seen in many of the collections, like Ellery, DKNY, Wes Gordon, and Josh Goot, above the ankle pencil skirts and long slouchy pants are the staples of next year’s wardrobes. Dresses are also significantly longer than before, and sometimes layered over long pants to create an even more dramatic and elongated look.

Another trend that is emerging on the resort scenes is the oversized silhouette. Culottes - the new favorite of this season - are a great example of this growing trend. Constructed with athletic fabrics, boxier tops and dresses with hard shapes were a popular choice for many of the designers for their 2015 resort collections: Mother of Pearl, BCBG, Opening Ceremony, and Kenzo were among the brands embracing this sporty-inspired style.

The mentioned trends herald an era in which comfort and utility are given more value than ever before. With today’s fast-paced and hectic lives, this new trend is definitely here to stay.

Fashion is all about standing out, and apparently this year the bigger the better!
